Early Implant Placement: Guided or Unguided

Early Implant Placement:Guided or Unguided As more clinicians move to early implant placement, we are getting a lot of questions about whether the procedure should be guided or unguided. Of course, guided implant placement is great technology, but for a clinician with years of experience doing unguided implant placement it becomes a question of not which method is better, but when is guided placement indicated over unguided. The direct answer to this question is the state of mineralization of the tissue and the clinician’s experience with early implant placement. One of the major advantages of early implant placement over immediate…

How To Avoid Socket Graft Failures

How To Avoid Socket Graft Failures Completely debride the socket. Visually examine the complete socket. Any debris left in the socket can interfere with socket regeneration. The most common debris are remnants of endodontic therapy, granulation tissue and root tips. Take a radiograph. After the extraction but before placement of the graft take a radiograph to insure the removal of all debris. A radiograph of the extraction socket can show remnants of endodontic gutta percha and cement and also root tips. Even complete visualization can miss socket debris. A removable appliance should never be placed over a grafted site. Any…

Atraumatic Tooth Extraction

Atraumatic Extraction Method Traditional tooth extraction uses lateral forces to expand the alveolus until the irregularly shaped root can be removed. This expansion of the alveolus often does not show obvious damage to the socket on a clinical level, but this method causes widespread fracturing of the bone on a microscopic level and often leads to complete resorption of alveolar walls. The trauma of this method creates significant inflammation in the bone which leads to significant bone resorption. This inflammation also exhibits itself in more postoperative pain for the patient. The following atraumatic extraction method allows removal of a tooth…

Early Implants: Pushing the Envelope on Bone Regeneration

Early Implants: Pushing the Envelope onBone Regeneration We have been teaching early implant placement as a superior implant methodology for about 2 years and it gives us great pleasure to find our customers refining and expanding the technology. Here we present a case performed by Dr. Matt Bickel, a general dentist in New Jersey who has been using our products for many years. Patient is a 62 y.o. white female who presents with a fractured, endo treated, #30. Due to insurance issues, she was hoping to get the extraction, graft, implant, and implant restoration in approximately a 2-month time frame.…

3D-Printed Tissue Regeneration

In tissue engineering and regeneration, most everything of interest happens in the first 4 weeks. Here we discuss the clinical application of 3D-printed bone grafts for ridge augmentation and evaluate what is happening in the graft as it is converted into vital bone.
